Farm Notes – Week of 7/27/22

Find our produce at Chestertown Farmers Market Saturdays 8am-12pm on High Street

The produce list this week includes:beets (red and golden), blackberries, blueberries, carrots, cucumbers (slicing and pickling), garlic, lettuce mix, potatoes (adirondack blue), parsley, peppers (sweet red, green and shisito), onions (red torpedo and yellow), scallions, summer squash, tomatillos, tomatoes (slicing, heirloom, San Marzano and cherry), and watermelon.

Topic to talk about this week is tomatillos! How many of our dear readers have ever eaten a tomatillo? They were first domesticated by the Aztecs, and tomatillo translates to little tomato in Spanish, though are very different from their more popular cousin, the tomato. Tomatillos are low in sodium, rich in potassium and are the key ingredient to salsa verde, just be sure to peel the husks off before using them!
