'Jacob Cline' is a cultivar of Monarda didyma, a beebalm species known for its scarlet flowers; this cultivar instead produces striking brick red flowers that bloom from late spring well into the fall. Plants are surprisingly hardy and resistant to some of the diseases that affect other Monarda crops, and flowers are attractive to pollinators and hummingbirds as well as people for their striking colors and the plant's minty aroma.
Typical specimens of Monarda didyma grow slightly taller than some relatives, usually to between four and five feet tall. Since Monarda is in the mint family, 'Jacob Cline' is clump forming, but spreads much more slowly than some of its aggressive relatives. The leaves have a minty perfume scent, and can be used for teas and a variety of traditional folk medicines.
